Heavy Metal Hair Analysis
Heavy Metal Hair Analysis is a popular screening technique used to detect both toxic elements and mineral imbalances that can impact our health and wellbeing. Our hair is nourished by nutrients in the blood and lymphatic fluid and as the hair grows anything that is circulating in these fluids is trapped in the matrix of the hair. Hence hair analysis can provide a picture of what has been going on in the body over a long period of time rather than a snap shot that is provided by blood and saliva testing.
Heavy Metal Hair Analysis can help identify toxic elements that can impact our health. Elements such as lead, mercury, aluminum, nickel, tin, arsenic and cadmium may contribute to symptoms of fatigue, headache, weight gain, mood disorders and can impact the status of other minerals, such as zinc, selenium and calcium. Once the levels of these nutrients are identified a protocol including lifestyle, dietary and supplement modifications can be designed to a) eliminate any toxins and b) address nutrient deficiencies.
How is the Hair sample obtained?
A hair sample is required from the back of the head (about a dessert spoon). About 1-2cm from the root end should be used. Colored or treated hair can contaminate the sample and hair should be allowed to grow out if this is the case.
Hair analysis is an inexpensive and easy way to discover how your body handles toxic elements and provide more information about a current health issue. It can also give useful information on your body's stores of trace minerals and essential elements like selenium, magnesium and calcium.
